Why You Should Deepen Your Desire for Disruption - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

Natalie Viglione the CEO and Founder of an award-winning Business and Coaching Services Firm called Team Gu which is in New York City and Charlotte, NC joins Enterprise Radio.

Natalie is also the Creator and Chief Disruptor of the Disrupt Now Program and Podcast. A creative visionary, Natalie helps businesses and individuals realize their full potential, uncover their purpose, and put the right plans in place to make them thrive.

Listen to interview with host Eric Dye & guest Natalie Viglione discuss the following:

  • What is Team Gu and what do you and your team do?
  • Disrupt Now – how does that fit into your business model and what is it exactly?
  • What do you mean by “disruption” and why do you feel that it’s something important for individuals, and for the businesses that are your clients?
  • What happens when there is a disruption in the “status quo” exactly? What have you seen?
  • What are some samples of what you and your team do to allow them to “disrupt now” or get out of being stuck in “status quo”?

SUMMARY: The world is complicated today that we can all agree with I believe. We take on a lot of transition and sometimes oppose those moments of change. I’m here to change the way we see those moments because disruptive moments push you towards freedom. Disruption in business isn’t only about disrupting a market, or talking about digital disruption; it’s bigger than that. At an individual level, freedom comes when you’re living from your purpose (what you’re here to do in this world and is your unique footprint); you become connected, your entire being is “turned on” and you’re tuned in. This doesn’t just apply to individuals as people run businesses, so companies are also living, breathing, works of art just like our lives.

If a business isn’t working from its purpose point, if it doesn’t have its unique footprint in a specific industry, then the way it portrays itself and behaves will be off, and that will mean the business will suffer in some way and business goals aren’t attained. Things will just be off. If we desire to live and breathe from the point of purpose then minds open, risks are taken to achieve more significant levels of success, and alignment happens. The same is true in operating our businesses. If we deepen our desire as humans, in general, to want disruption and not be afraid to make those moments continuously happen regardless of the related risk, we can create more mindful, and conscious activities to happen in the world. We can help change the world together, support the greater good, and not just in our respective areas of living or doing business, but from a global perspective.

Natalie Viglione is a creative visionary that brings 17 years of corporate experience to her focus as an entrepreneur. Upon reaching a Vice President Executive level in NYC, she decided to disrupt her existence and has focused all of her energy on building her ultimate vision of her life through her business. Natalie is harnessing her creative and business acumen developing an edgy, out of the box, award-winning Business & Coaching Services Firm through Team Gu, and has launched a new product/coaching program and podcast called Disrupt Now (disrupting the status quo!)

Her work with many different businesses over the evolution of her career has helped her create a unique way in helping people and companies become holistically healthy and has developed the means to support that journey to reach new levels of success.

She carries a keen ability to know what makes companies and humans tick intuitively and has learned that she is, in fact, an Empath/Indigo. She can see the most magnificent vision possible and knows innately the right steps necessary to get to that ultimate vision. Her strategic guidance includes consulting around the business in its entirety, management and leadership, sales and marketing, and she is certified and trained as a Life Guide and Teacher (aka Coach). Her work experience in corporations expands across business operations, management, strategy, and implementation of extensive sales and marketing projects that include but are not limited to branding, writing and creating content, creative direction, complex technology projects, video production, rolling out new sales initiatives and training procedures, and much more.

She is a trained and certified Life, Professional and Business Coach under the global program at the World Coach Institute, and is training with a prestigious health and nutrition coaching program called Precision Nutrition to get her Health & Wellness Coaching Certification.

Natalie thrives on utilizing science and art in how she approaches leading her company and is a part of the work that she and the team provides. She’s pulled together a group of very talented individuals to support her on her entrepreneurial journey. Team Gu combines the Disrupt Now ethos and the work at hand is thoroughly broken down to dive into the way people act, behave, and the way people’s brains work. Natalie taps into the necessary growth and evolution strategies and then provides the tools, tips, and techniques to get there. Her purpose in life is helping people and businesses genuinely evolve based on the ethos that disrupting status quo can propel one into the ultimate vision they see for themselves or for the company that they run.

5 Things You Need to Know About Covert Transcription - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

$

0

Transcription is used in many industries, for a whole host of purposes, and it is always challenging. But one transcription situation is certainly more challenging than all of the others. This is covert or undercover transcription.

Covert transcription is usually requested for use in a legal trial, dispute, or court case. Typically, a solicitor, police officer, forensic scientist, or other official will request the covert transcription. Here are some other key factors concerning covert transcription and its importance.

1. Covert Transcription is Difficult to Decipher

The recording devices used to collect the discussions are, obviously, hidden in covert transcription. This means that no one knows the recording is taking place and there will therefore be a lot of background noise, garbled speech, and confusing sounds to decipher as the transcriptionist gets to the heart of what is actually said. It can take up to one hour to confidently decipher just three minutes of covert recording, according to https://www.alphabetsecretarial.co.uk.

2. It Requires Specialist Equipment

Usually transcribers work with highly sensitive headphones and use special software when they are working with covert recordings. This is because of how difficult the speech is to discern, and the need to work very slowly.

3. Covert Transcribers Are Highly Skilled

It does take a real expert to transcribe this kind of material. There is a great deal of patience involved as the person must spend hours listening to the smallest segments of recording. It is not a job for someone who likes to see results immediately. Expert transcribers work hard to listen to and decipher the most challenging and problematic audio and turn it into a document that can be confidently used in court or by professionals in investigations.

4. It Must Be Absolutely Accurate

Covert transcription, or hidden mic transcription, must be completely accurate since the record of these conversations will be used to provide evidence. This is called a verbatim transcription and it is essential that it can be relied upon as evidence. If something were to be wrongly interpreted or transcribed it could mean the difference between a case succeeding or failing.

5. This Transcription is Confidential

And, it goes without saying, covert transcription is confidential. It is important that only trusted transcription companies work on this type of transcription job since it is sensitive and there is a need for absolute accuracy.

The Top Five Aspects to Consider when Looking for Property to Rent - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

$

Moving to a new property – whether it be a house or a flat – can seem like an exciting adventure, and it’s perfectly normal to dream and make plans, to imagine what it will be like in your new home. However, it’s important to go through the process of looking for that new residence with a cool head and some patience; you have to know what you want and list down your expectations.

There’s no doubt that perfect property for you is out there; it’s just a matter of looking around and checking off some important items on your list of priorities. What’s the best way to search for a new home? Here are the top five aspects to consider when looking for property to rent.

Start with your budget

There’s absolutely no use getting that wonderful house or flat that you’ve always wanted if it’s too expensive and bound to give you financial problems in the future. Your home is supposed to be a rock of comfort and pleasure, so make sure you have a good hard look at your finances (and your future prospects) and fix a budget for yourself. Once you’ve decided that, the search for your rental property can begin.

Think about location

The location matters in many ways. Is it close enough to work, shopping centres, family? Is it pricy in the neighbourhood? Is it crime-free? Are there parks around? These things matter in the long term, and it’s often better to decide on the neighbourhood first rather than focus on the property itself. For instance, if you’re interested in an area like Colchester, you should base your search on flats to rent in Colchester and begin from there.

Amenities

List down the amenities that you wish to have, and rank them according to priority. Be realistic (consider your budget), but make sure to have notes about what is really important to you. Do this before viewing any property.

Safety

Is the building safe and sound? Are there crime areas nearby? Does it have clear escape routes in case of fire? Safety first.

The condition of the property

Make sure pre-existing problems are recorded before you sign any lease agreement. You may be able to get a good deal (discount on monthly rent) if you propose to improve the property.

You may have to make compromises at times. However, remember that compromises could actually turn into opportunities if you know how to negotiate with the owner of the property. For example, you might not like the colour of the walls, but maybe the landlord may be willing to discount the rent if you agree to give the walls a fresh coat of paint. When looking around for property, take your time – that perfect property is out there.

Antiquated to Updated: 7 Reasons You Start Moving Towards the Cloud and Managing Your Documents Virtually? - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

The printed word remains popular among many people, largely because they like the feel of a book or magazine in their hands and it is much easier to read ink on paper than images on a screen. But these benefits do not extend to business documents, because for the most part, no one really wants to read them.

Therefore, since ink-and-paper documents really have no benefit, most business-owners know that they should partner with a good document scanning service. Here are some specific reasons this transition is a good idea.

Better Security

One of the most frequently-cited reasons for staying with paper documents is actually one of the best reasons to digitize these documents.

Anyone can walk out with a paper document, but digital documents are password protected and encrypted, so they are almost impossible to steal and almost useless in the wrong hands. Furthermore, protocols allow owners to track access, so if there are any questions, they know who to ask. Finally, if documents are stored on a physical drive without Internet access, they are essentially hack-proof.

More Space

In most cases, the landlord charges the same amount of rent for storage space as for revenue-producing space. Document scanning allows owners to almost completely eliminate this space and convert it to an area that strengthens the bottom line instead of weakening it.

Compliance

Business that have private health information, financial data, or other personal information face extremely stiff penalties if this information is lost or stolen. Moreover, if government or private auditors are on site, they want documents now and not in an hour.

As mentioned earlier, digitization is the best way to keep documents secure. It’s also the best way to keep documents indexed, organized, and easy to locate.

Better Customer Service

A government agency may not punish a business for losing conference notes or case files, but the customers will most likely do so. Many lose confidence in businesses that cannot keep their information close at hand and well-protected.

Document scanning solves both these problems. Moreover, if a business has multiple locations, it is much easier to share information via scanned documents.

Better Collaboration

That same dynamic applies in the office as well. Multiple people in multiple locations can look at the same digital document simultaneously, which is an excellent time-saving tool in cases where there are a limited number of source documents.

Improved Information Preservation

This issue is significant when it comes to older documents that are in poor physical condition, such as very old property deeds or real estate notes. Because scanning is a “last touch” solution, there is no risk of further document deterioration. Moreover, for those who just have to view physical documents, scanned instruments are easy to print in multiple formats.

Lower Fiscal and Environmental Costs

Instead of large copying machines with expensive maintenance contracts that are difficult to operate because of their delicate nature, a paper-free office only needs a few small printers.

Moreover, the average office worker uses 10,000 sheets of paper a year. In many paper-intensive environments, such as law offices, the figure is much higher. While you may think that one paperless office may not make much of a difference, remember that you are either part of the problem or part of the solution.

Put these advantages to work for you and start scanning stored documents today.

What is High Availability and Why is it Important for Online Services? - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

$

dot mac” (CC BY-ND 2.0) by aburt

As users increasingly rely on durable online systems and web apps, businesses are under growing pressure to introduce reliable, high-performing infrastructures to serve those systems and services. As an organization’s online services grow in popularity, reducing individual points of failure is equally important as coping with heightened system loads.

Availability is a means of measuring the performance of an infrastructure to address single failures and maintain consistent operational performance. A system’s availability is often described in percentage terms, to outline the length of time a system should be reasonably expected to perform. For instance, a system which offers 100% availability would suggest the system will never be offline throughout a year of use. For a system to fall to 99% availability, it would be required to have 3.65 days of downtime a year on average.

High availability is most critical when a service or organisation operates a service which relies upon consistent operation, without frustrating interruption. By implementing a high availability infrastructure, online businesses can minimize the risk of downtime and, should the worst happen, recover automatically in the event of a component or server error.

Image: Pixabay

Eradicating single points of failure within an online infrastructure is one of the key aims of high availability. An individual point of failure relates to a specific element within your infrastructure that would create instant service disruption were it to fail or become unavailable. To remove the threat of an individual point of failure, each layer within your infrastructure must be readied for redundancy – for example, an infrastructure including two of the same redundant web servers behind a load balancer. All visitors to your online service will be funnelled equally between the two web servers, but should one of them fail, the load balancer will automatically port all new visitors to the single performing server.

For any online system to operate at high availability, the following dependable components are required:

  1. Hardware should be robust and resilient to the threat of power failures and data loss from hard disks and network interfaces
  2. Data safety should be paramount should a system failure occur
  3. The software of your online application and its operating system should be capable of quickly restarting in the event of a single point of failure
  4. A well-considered strategy for server locations would avoid taking your entire online system down by utilizing servers in data centers in various regions to avoid the threat of environmental damage
  5. Highly available systems should have a plan in place for redundant networks should unplanned outages occur

At every layer of a highly available online system, you will require different components in terms of software and configuration. At the top end of the application itself, load balancing software is vital to any high availability system. High Availability Proxy, also known as HAProxy, is an increasingly popular piece of load balancing software, capable of load balancing at network and application layers of your infrastructure, maintaining a consistent speed and performance by distributing workload throughout several web servers. HAProxy is also highly configurable as it can operate on three key operating systems (Solaris, Linux and FreeBSD).

The overall implementation of high availability infrastructure may seem somewhat confusing. However, there is no denying that the rewards for online systems that offer users such high percentages of operational performance are well worth the meticulous strategy necessary for it to work, both in terms of monetary and reputational value.

Why MBAs are Still Relevant in 2017 - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

$

The leading universities in the world have been offering MBA programs for decades now. MBA programs have been among the most competitive programs in these universities. However, some people are now skeptical about the MBA degree. Some argue that it is over-rated while some think it is no longer relevant in the current business world. The evolution of digital media has led to the assumption that entrepreneurs can learn all the necessary skills without attending business school. The reality is that MBAs are still relevant even with the digital explosion for the following reasons.

Leadership Development

MBA programs cover more than the basic skills required to run an organization or business. Leading universities like Norwich University focus on leadership development in their MBA programs. Running an organization goes beyond managing daily operations. Some entrepreneurs can do that without any training. However, strategic planning requires leadership skills, especially for businesses that target the global market. The leadership skills acquired in business school apply to any environment including non-profit organizations. The ability to provide solutions and solve conflicts cannot be outdated.

Networking

Professionals can acquire skills in different ways. Enrolling in an online MBA degree is one of the best ways to enhance their skills set. However, the people that professionals meet in an MBA class cannot be replaced. Some students have made long-term business partnerships with their classmates. In fact, some of the successful businesses started as ideas in a business class. An MBA program brings great minds together with similar life goals. Professionals have multiple opportunities to grow their networks and find mentors while pursuing their MBA degree.

Running Complex Organizations

Businesses are now more complex than they were when MBAs were introduced. New technologies and trends emerge every day that entrepreneurs must incorporate into their businesses to remain relevant. Entrepreneurs need professional training now more than ever to run complex organizations. Business owners must be well-equipped to manage multi-cultural teams. The latest trends to hire virtual employees in different parts of the world require dynamic human resource policies. Universities update their MBA programs to suit the changing business environment. Hence, graduates have the necessary skills and knowledge to run a business in the prevailing industry trends.

Building Structures and Systems

The success of any business largely depends on the structures and systems in place. An entrepreneur can multitask and do several managerial tasks at the initial stage of a business. However, a large business requires good systems, policies, and structures that ensure its survival even when employees leave. An online MBA program is the best way for entrepreneurs and professionals to acquire skills to establish such structures and systems. The knowledge also helps entrepreneurs to train their managers to run and improve the established systems.

MBA programs have undergone different changes over the years. However, the programs remain relevant despite the current explosion in information technology. Some professionals will always require the certificate from a business school to qualify for good jobs. In addition, the leadership and managerial skills taught in business school cannot get outdated even with changes in the business environment. Any entrepreneur with a dream of building a successful business needs to enroll in an MBA program.

These political analysts are actually self-employed small business owners who market themselves, with their well supported opinions pretty much speaking for themselves. First and foremost, a masters in political science online degree will be required to get respect in this field. You can attend George Washington University or any other school with a good reputation for producing the country’s brightest political minds. Here’s how you can start embarking on a politically based career that will enable you to set your work hours, travel at will, and make a big impression on the minds of the general public.

Learn What It Means to Be an Influencer

On YouTube, there are influencers who are paid well by advertisers because they get millions of views from subscribers each and every day. While a lot of influencers are young adults who play video games, post makeup tutorials or just have uniquely over the top personalities, educated people with an online degree in political science can also have a lot of followers. Just be consistent with your online posting schedule so that fans will know when to check back and view your newest material.

Start Building Your Political Following Online

Twitter became an unlikely platform for President Trump prior to his election. In fact, Twitter wasn’t nearly as popular before the 2016 presidential election with most social media users preferring Instagram and Snapchat, and even Facebook. Because Twitter forces users to state their messages in 140 characters or less, every post that you make has to be pretty powerful. In addition, Twitter is the type of online platform that can be used dozens of times a day without your followers getting annoyed. Get people to notice you and respect your opinions by going online, stating facts and presenting your message in a professional manner.

Back Up Your Statements with Uncontested Facts

Politicians might say just about anything to get votes, but that frame of mind can come back to bite them when it is found that they have been dishonest. As a political analyst, you have to show integrity, care, and class at every turn. In other words, if you say something while on the air on even on your blog, you better make sure that it is true. You can avoid being accused of making false statements by having everything supported by facts. Use quotes from speeches and hire an assistant to help ensure that you have the most up to date statistics.

Political analysts look at trends, statistics, polls, and facts to help determine which candidates are strongest. They might get hired by politicians to help them gain the votes of people belonging to certain areas of the country ahead of an election. Analysts might also be so influential that they’re hired by news networks to appear and make comments on current events. If you want to have a business where your opinion counts most of all, get into politics and have your voice be heard.

Why You Should Study for A Business Degree - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

There has been a long running debate amongst entrepreneurs as to how much value there is in studying for a business degree. As time has gone on and we have developed and refined our understanding of business and economics in our increasingly technological world, the way that we teach new entrepreneurs has changed. This change has meant that the degrees and courses on offer today to business students are very different, and much more focused, than they have been in the past. In this article we take a look at some of the best reasons to study for a business degree.

Practical and Theoretical

Studying for a business degree will teach students about both the practical side of running a business and managing corporate assets, and also about the theories which underpin modern business theory. Some business people are better at the practical, more hands on, side of things, while others are better suited to a more backseat role, offering advice and guidance to help steer the business.

A business degree is therefore an excellent way for students to try both sides of things and to work out which is the best use of their talents.

Case Based Learning

Most business learning is case based, meaning that knowledge is extrapolated by studying real world cases and examples. From these we can learn a great deal about contemporary business theory and how it arose. Because of this, students of business have a much greater awareness than those in many other subjects of the practical, real world applications of what they learn.

By making learning much less abstract, it is far easier to hold the interest of students and knowledge is much more likely to be retained.

Prove Your Credentials

Many people view a business degree as an indication of an individual’s ability and their dedication to their business endeavours. Consequently, many students choose to pursue a business degree, such as an online MBA degree, as a way of gaining a qualification in order to show their commitment and dedication. Those without any formal business degrees often find it harder to get their foot in the door, while those who are able to cite a degree on their resume tend to fair much better.

Career Opportunities

Another one of the major selling points of a business degree is the myriad of career opportunities that it opens up to graduates. Among the many and varied careers which will welcome applicants with a business degree are management consultancy, investment banking, public relations officer, and market researcher.

This makes a business degree one of the most versatile that you can earn and is one of the few that lets you choose to work in just about any field you choose. A business degree is therefore an excellent choice for students who aren’t entirely sure where they want to work in the long term.

These are just some of the reasons that you should consider studying for a business degree. No matter what field you hope to work in professionally in the long term, a business degree will help to set your application apart from the competition.

What You Do (and Don’t) Have to Know About Cars - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

We don’t have to know everything about cars in order to drive them. That doesn’t mean we should remain totally ignorant, though. When we learn to drive, we learn the really basic stuff, like the difference between the gas pedal and the brake pedal, and how and when to use a turn signal, and even things like how to fuel up a car with gasoline, since that’s not something that everyone knows how to do immediately. If we didn’t know those things, it would be pretty hard to drive a car safely and responsibly. But that’s the bare minimum of knowledge we need. There’s other stuff that’s very useful to know about, and then there’s stuff that we probably don’t need to concern ourselves with unless it really interests us anyway.

Know how to change a tire

If you get a flat tire, do you know how to change it? If not, you should try and learn. Ask a friend or family member to show you, and then attempt to do it yourself. It can be a really helpful skill to learn, because if you get stranded on the side of the road with a flat, you may not have the time or energy to wait for a repair service to come out and change the tire for you. Don’t listen to the stereotype about how car repairs are “men’s work.” Women are by no means too weak or feeble to jack up a car and change a tire. Just make sure you’re doing it in a safe place. The shoulder of a busy highway is not ideal, but if you have no choice, make sure your hazard lights are on.

You should also know how to check your car’s oil. Have you ever gone to an oil change place and told your car is “off the stick?” That’s not fancy car repairmen slang; it means your dipstick doesn’t have any oil on it. That’s not good. Checking your dipstick takes just a couple of minutes, but it’s worth a lot as far as peace of mind goes.

Feel free to ask questions when you’re getting your car serviced, too, regardless of if the service is taking place at your dealership or at Bubba’s Repair Shop down the street.

Stuff that’s not as important

Hey, did you know about the perforated tubing that’s used to build some vehicles? You didn’t? Well, you can learn about it if you want, because that stuff can be interesting and is essential to car structure. But you don’t need to be able to talk about it to drive your car. It’s not something they’re going to ask you about the next time to visit the Department of Motor Vehicles to renew your driver’s license.

Similarly, you also don’t need to be able to draw a diagram of your car’s internal combustion engine (unless you’re studying to be an auto mechanic or something). We use a lot of things every day without being able to explain how they work in vivid detail. You don’t have to know how to code to use your laptop, for instance. That doesn’t mean coding or advanced auto repair can’t be useful skills. They’re just not necessary for most people.

Lighting For Every Occasion - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

We turn on the lights in the morning and we turn them off at night. We don’t spend a lot of time thinking about them otherwise, unless, of course, something goes wrong, like a bulb burning out at the worst possible moment. But lighting can make a big difference. If you’re trying to set a certain mood, the lighting you choose can be one of your biggest allies or one of your worst enemies. Think of your house like a movie theater. Before the movie, the lights are up. When the trailers start, the lights dim a bit, and when the movie stars, the lights go down completely. If the bright, glaring lights stayed on during the entire movie, everyone would be confused and a little irritated. You may not be running a movie theater, but for special occasions, lights matter a lot.

For a holiday party

If you’re having friends over for a party to celebrate Christmas, New Year’s, or even a birthday, then you’re likely preoccupied with things like what kind of food to serve (you like taco bars, but maybe they’d prefer something more traditional) and what kind of music to play (there’s holiday music, but maybe everyone is sick of that by mid-December). Don’t forget to pay attention to the lighting. If possible, serve the food in one room with plenty of bright lights. If you kitchen island, that would work great. You want people to be able to see their choices for dining, after all. No one likes to turn on their smartphone flashlight because it’s hard to see if the dip in the bowl is a hummus dip or a guacamole dip. Then, once people have a plate full of food, send them to a more dimly lit room to socialize. A living room or dining room with a few candles works great, but if you’re scared of fire, you can use other, less conventional, types of lighting to achieve a similar effect. There will probably be a few people who congregate in the kitchen area to chat over the food, and that’s fine, but most people will drift into the more dimly lit area to socialize and chill out. You can even put on an old Christmas movie on the TV if you want, although you should probably keep it either on low volume or muted, since most people will want to talk to each other.

For a romantic night

A romantic night in is much more intimate than a holiday party, and so the lighting should be intimate as well. If you want a dinner by candlelight, it’s probably best to just use one or two candles rather than one or two dozen candles. A room full of candles may be dramatic, but it’s also really hot (as well as a potential fire hazard). You and your significant other should be the ones generating the most heat here. That said, if it’s a chilly winter night and you have a fireplace, light it and sit together. Sit by the fireplace and look out the window at the snow falling. The soft light coming through the window at night should perfectly complement the warm glow of the fireplace, giving you all you need for cozy, romantic night.

Working Out in Wintertime - Entrepreneur Podcast Network – EPN

Exercise is something that comes a lot more naturally to most people when the weather is warmer. There’s a reason so many diets talk about “beach bodies” and “getting in shape for swimsuit season.” When it’s warm and sunny outside, it feels like one of the best things you can do is go outside and work up a sweat. It doesn’t really matter if you’re getting your workout in at an air-conditioned gym, an outdoor pool, or just by running around your neighborhood. It’s all good for your body as well as your sense of self.

Winter, on the other hand, is another matter. We’re all bundled up in warm clothes, and we don’t want to do anything other than huddle under the covers, perhaps with a heating pad or electric blanket. The idea of going out and working up a sweat when it’s twenty degrees outside seems akin to making a peanut butter and asparagus sandwich. Some things just don’t go together well. It’s hard to talk yourself into working out when there’s snow falling outside and a roaring fireplace inside. Winter clothes are also a lot more forgiving, which is a double-edged sword.

You shouldn’t expect yourself to work out six days a week for two hours at a time in winter. You’re not a professional athlete. Be kind to yourself, but don’t just give up on all forms of activity until March. Sure, technicians came out and winterized your pool before Halloween, so you’re not going to be swimming any laps anytime soon, but you still have other avenues available if you choose to pursue them.

Gyms have heaters

Gyms want their patrons to be comfortable while they work up a sweat, so they’re going to have the heaters on something close to full blast in the wintertime. In most fitness centers, you can walk in workout shorts and a tank top and be perfectly fine, as long as you throw on some layers before you go back outside. Heading to the gym is a good reminder that life goes on even when the trees are dormant and the wild animals are hibernating. Just try to spend 30 minutes on a treadmill or elliptical machine. You can also add in some light weight-lifting for a more balanced workout, but that’s up to you. Give yourself that time to unwind and try to relax. It may sound counterintuitive to call something that gets your heart rate up “relaxing,” but think of that sense of peace that comes after a workout. You may be sore and sweaty, but you’ve also accomplished something, and you know it.

Speaking of sore, sometimes joints and muscles seem to act up a bit more during cold weather. If you’re worried, check out a site like All About Knees and educate yourself on ways to keep your body in proper working order. If something about your exercise regimen is causing you pain, then you should stop doing it. If you try to push yourself too hard, you’ll just end injuring yourself. Remember that the goal is to feel good. If you end up needing crutches in the middle of a harsh and icy winter, you’re not going to feel good.
